HOMEWORK by Monday : complete the Billie-J double

A4 page with 100 words bio on Billie J

Try using this to help writing the words :

"Billie –J is the pseudonym of a contemporary

illustrator based in the UK .

His work typically uses hand rendered media such as biro, often in monochrome. Using sources from a diverse and eclectic range, his work is detailed , intricate and intriguing.

Then describe what you like / see in his work

(is it controlled ? how does he use scale ? are his theme dark but yet sometimes humorous ? Does he use symbols, patterns and shapes ?)"

If you have areas missing from the first project , please come in & make sure these are completed by Monday

PHOTOSHOP BASICS SHEET

Written work - this week:

Part 1. Use this Venn diagram to help you with the compare / contrast of

Studio Dumbar / Muller Brockmann ↓↓↓

Write an intro to Studio Dumbar
(Who are they ? Where do they work ? When ? Can you describe their work ?)

Then on a half page Insert, show a range of images from Studio Dumbar & Muller-Brockmann. Also add 100 words (ish) about the differences & similarities between them - (use the venn diagram above !)

Here is a partial example to help you:

Studio Dumbar are a modern design agency based in Amseterdam who are influenced by the Swiss design system & Joseph Muller Brockmann. I like the modern feel to Dumbars work with its use of distortion and pattern.

I can clearly see  the links between Muller Brockmann & Dumbar through their use of
............................., ..................................... and ................................................
Studio Dumbar however use more ....................................whilst Brockmann uses more ...................................

Part 2: On your page of typographic edits , write why your best design works . Evaluate why & how the other designs work - thinking about :

What is the focal point ? Does the design use the rule of 3rds ? Why did you choose the colours & how do they work ? Have you used negative space like the artists we are looking at ?

Have you split the text up ? Why ?

Have you used the diagonal ? What effect does this have ?
